e426.org is dedicated to offering assistance where our innovative skills are needed and can benefit others. Therefore, we are always looking for business development opportunities where we can find synergies with other companies who share a common goal.

On November 12, 2009, Sandy Kearney, President and Priscilla Rabb Ayres, Senior Vice President attended the 4th Annual Alliance Baltimore Small Business Procurement Fair at the Baltimore, MD Convention Center. This is a MatchMaking event where regional small businesses will meet with 50 plus agencies and contractors. Each event around the country averages 450 participants. Participating agencies generally include regional, federal, state and local agencies. Each event includes MatchMaking meetings, exhibit booths and resource tables.

This conference provided e426.org the opportunity to make face-to-face contact with companies that could potentially become “partners” in preparing proposals and contracts.

e426.org Founder, Sandy Kearney, was a presenter last week at MIT’s EMTech Conference. Her thoughts:

First, about EmTech.

It’s always amazing when you join any forum of really, really smart thinkers.

EmTech was a gathering of a very eclectic, brilliant thinkers. One thing I really like about MIT is that they do like innovation and it’s not just about “who’s got the greenback.” This conference with their TR35 folks was truly a treat.

I spent a great deal of time talking to the TR candidates about their Inventions and talking to others in attendance. (It wasn’t a who’s who collection at all.) I would have said it was a Who’s going to be…. collection of people. The other very interesting observation was the generational differences. The old school ‘brilliant’ guys all appeared the same….the new school was VERY ECLECTIC! It was refreshing.

Now for our panel: After a lengthy delay because the Tech folks couldn’t figure out how to make the projector work, I went ahead with the discussion to kick off our panel…minus any powerpoint or presentation materials.

I truly wanted to get the information out, to those in attendance, that we can pick up the pace of solid standards for 3D Internet (including virtual worlds) if we begin to use both Right Directed and Left Directed Thinking (Reference: Dan Pink’s book A Whole New Mind). The real focus of the materials was on the six step process for getting to solid standards in 3D Internet.

The 3D Internet a place with it’s roots in gaming, media and entertainment where Creative’s rule and the experience is what drives success. I think these thoughts are critical for the future of the web.

It’s beyond social networks or 2D. My theory and I’ve used it now for sometime is to spend more time on the first three steps in the presentation, naturally our Left Directed Thinking world will move toward the last three steps.

We covered each step and some example of the steps and discussed some questions and answers focused on getting the results needed and execution!

It was a great conference … thanks to all who came to see our session …

- Sandy

Editor’s note: The actual presentation (all four slides) is HERE >> EMTechPresentation

The whirlwind of activities leading up to our launch left us rather breathless. We were fortunate to be able to stand back and take a good look at where we are and what we need to do.

First things were, of course, to correct any bad links that may have crept in to our site. Naturally, everyone went over the site with a fine-toothed comb as matter of course prior to launch, but every silver lining and all.

So, while there were a few things to sweep up, we are all-in-all proud of our result.

One thing that allowed us to move with such rapidity was our collaborative environment. We really do practice what we preach – we are wholly virtual, and relied on tools such as Wordpress, Socialtext, Skype, Totally Free Conference Calls and email to document and drive our changes.

It is this precise model that we feel will allow change, cost and moral improvements, from the largest government institutions right down to the smallest company.

This methodology is not a way for people to goof off at home – like no one ever goofs off at work, right? Rather, what it does is to allow one to manage both around their life and work schedules. It eliminates most travel, while still allowing a team to work as a unit.

Telecommuting, even occasionally, can be seen as a major benefit to both the employee and employer. In a time when travel is limited, and therefore education efforts are even harder, the interactive capabilities of the web are even more important to your productivity. Also, while the latest news might demoralize your staff, showing them that you do trust them and that you care about them as individuals makes all the difference.

We are here to help you get started, so please feel free to engage our services.

It’s barely been a month, and there has been a lot of work by a lot of people. The real value of what e426 will be to the world has been seen in how we – volunteers all – have pulled together as a team. This is the new world, folks, where you hope to actually meet someone someday, while you work with them, bond with them, make that magic with them where your skills mesh to make something more than you can do separately.

The virtual environment allows people to come together across the miles. This is not just because many of us ‘worked virtual’ in a previous job and are used to it. It is because we have a common goal, we have common interests and we have good tools at hand. It is really that simple – if you have never worked in a virtual environment, you will be surprised how effective instant messaging, low and no-cost ad hoc conference calls, a teamroom, and even 3D environments can help you execute.

Ancillary to this is the ability to be flexible. Some work, indeed, is 9 – 5, Monday through Friday. However, more and more we see that work can be done when your mind is clear, work can be done from your home, or a coffee shop, or wherever. A world is evolving where it is not how many hours you put in a week, but rather how much you accomplished in a week. This is a major shift in the way we can look at our employees, our businesses, and how we reimburse people.

It is exciting, sitting in the front row at the show when everything changed. We are really going to look back at this time as a pivotal moment in history. I know it can look bleak if you listen to the news, but remember, they are selling soap. This is an exciting time, and all it takes is the same thing it always took – your skills, your effort, your heart, and your vision. We have come back from terrible adversity, we have overcome, we have excelled, and we have drawn together. Our diversity makes us stronger.

e426 is an example of this new world.

I would like to personally thank everyone who has helped make this happen, and I look forward to our future of growth, and the successes we will have facilitating others to make their way. This is what we were talking about when we said we could change the world.

So, “e” = “Ex”, and you and your telephone should be able to make out the rest.

What about the leaf symbol. The image here came up after a number of conversations, a “new start”, if you will; “turning over a new leaf” was another line. Growth, grassroots, insulated in that we are not looking to build a replacement for any one company or resource, nor build a financial pyramid.

Rather, we offer a new approach to a client base, specifically, a client base struggling to make the best use of the massive funding flowing through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

We realize that we are in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. At the same time, things have changed substantially since 1932. The knowledge base and skillset that those people who are attracted to us are substantial national resources. We do not wish to see them squandered working in dead end jobs just so they can feed the dogs.

Together, we are greater than the sum of the whole.
