e426.org Founder, Sandy Kearney, was a presenter last week at MIT’s EMTech Conference. Her thoughts:
First, about EmTech.
It’s always amazing when you join any forum of really, really smart thinkers.
EmTech was a gathering of a very eclectic, brilliant thinkers. One thing I really like about MIT is that they do like innovation and it’s not just about “who’s got the greenback.” This conference with their TR35 folks was truly a treat.
I spent a great deal of time talking to the TR candidates about their Inventions and talking to others in attendance. (It wasn’t a who’s who collection at all.) I would have said it was a Who’s going to be…. collection of people. The other very interesting observation was the generational differences. The old school ‘brilliant’ guys all appeared the same….the new school was VERY ECLECTIC! It was refreshing.
Now for our panel: After a lengthy delay because the Tech folks couldn’t figure out how to make the projector work, I went ahead with the discussion to kick off our panel…minus any powerpoint or presentation materials.
I truly wanted to get the information out, to those in attendance, that we can pick up the pace of solid standards for 3D Internet (including virtual worlds) if we begin to use both Right Directed and Left Directed Thinking (Reference: Dan Pink’s book A Whole New Mind). The real focus of the materials was on the six step process for getting to solid standards in 3D Internet.
The 3D Internet a place with it’s roots in gaming, media and entertainment where Creative’s rule and the experience is what drives success. I think these thoughts are critical for the future of the web.
It’s beyond social networks or 2D. My theory and I’ve used it now for sometime is to spend more time on the first three steps in the presentation, naturally our Left Directed Thinking world will move toward the last three steps.
We covered each step and some example of the steps and discussed some questions and answers focused on getting the results needed and execution!
It was a great conference … thanks to all who came to see our session …
